Quality and Renewal, KoF11

An overall evaluation of research at Uppsala University, called "Quality and Renewal 2011", has been carried out during 2011.

The objective of the project was to identify strong areas of research and successful constellations within the university. Moreover, it was aimed at identifying emerging science and promising initiatives for future research.

During KoF11, a follow up was also conducted in relation to the previous evaluation in 2007, KoF07.

The present comprehensive evaluation forms a basis for strategic decisions regarding selected efforts and support of research activities.

The evaluation is documented in a report, including a description of the project, a summary of expert panel reports, the panel reports in full, and the two bibliometric reports. This final report was presented to the vice-chancellor on 18 Nov 2011 and with this the KoF11-project was concluded. The report is available in pdf, see below.

The evaluation was carried out by 25 different expert panels with in total 200 experts from some 20 different countries. The panels have made site visits, one week for each panel, during May 2011, meeting with faculty and PhD students for interviews, presentations, and laboratory visits. A written background material was provided by the different departments to be studied by the panel experts prior to the visits.

This material did contain:
 - A self assessment with presentations of ongoing and planned research
 - A number of quantified quality indicators reflecting international and national recognition
 - Facts and figures concerning research publication, research exams, economy, etc.

Each of the 25 panels did submit a report on the various departments and units that they reviewed.

Apart from the peer-review evaluation two bibliometric studies of research publications during 2007-2010 was made.
